At NWG, we are working together to improve our water environment, leading by example for a better future.
Through our analysis we have identified thousands of kilometres of water environments which are accessible to the public (areas within 100m of water). We define these areas as 'bluespaces' and have an ambition to improve 500km by 2030.
The Bluespaces scheme allowed us to invest around £1m to partners from 2020-25 for catchment activities and enhancements. In this timeframe Bluespaces facilitated, contributed to and delivered almost 250 km of improvements to the water environment. By 2030, we hope to have delivered an additional 250 km of further improvements through the Bluespaces scheme. We have pledged to improve 500 km of bluespaces by 2030, as set out in our vision for coasts and rivers.
Working with others to deliver bluespaces improvements allows us to go ‘above and beyond’ our business-as-usual activities across the company. Through Bluespaces, we are working towards two of our ambitious goals:
- Leading in catchment management.
- Having the best rivers and beaches in the country.
