Sustainability
Water shapes everyday life across our regions - from the taps in our homes and the places we work, to the rivers, coastlines, reservoirs and green spaces our communities value.
At Northumbrian Water Group, our purpose is to care for the essential needs of our communities and environment, now and for generations to come. Sustainability is how we bring that purpose to life. It guides how we manage water, invest in our assets, support customers, work with partners, look after our people and make decisions for the future.
Expectations of the water sector are rising, and rightly so. Customers, communities, regulators and government want high standards of service, stronger environmental performance, greater transparency and investment that delivers real value. We welcome that focus, because it reflects the importance of the services we provide and the environment we help protect.
In 2025/26, we made progress across the areas that matter most to our customers, communities, colleagues and the environment. We ranked first in the industry for customer experience, supported more than 160,000 customers through affordability programmes, reduced average storm overflow spills from 26.30 to 17.70, and maintained strong colleague engagement, with 86% of colleagues saying NWG is a great place to work.
Our Sustainability Report brings together the progress we are making, the challenges we are tackling and the plans we are taking forward.
