Northumbrian Water is investing £200,000 in Berwick to strengthen the town’s water network and help find and fix leaks faster before they affect customers.

The work forms part of a wider £700,000 programme to improve how leaks are detected across the area, helping to protect water supplies and reduce the amount of treated water lost from the network.

Between June and September, teams will install 14 new meters across Berwick. These will divide the network into smaller sections, making it easier to spot unusual flows that could indicate a leak and allowing repairs to be targeted more quickly and accurately.

For customers, this means a more resilient water supply, with a greater chance of issues being identified and resolved before they lead to interruptions, low pressure, or the need to report a problem.

The investment is part of Northumbrian Water’s ongoing work to reduce leakage and safeguard water resources for the future.

Rachael Shepherd, Project Manager, said: “This investment will make a real difference in helping us monitor the network more closely and respond to leaks more quickly. It’s an important part of ensuring the network continues to meet the needs of the area now and in the future.”
