Northumbrian Water will be investing £950,000 in Longframlington, Northumberland, to upgrade 4.3km of ageing water pipes in the area.
This upgrade will strengthen the village water network, reduce the likelihood of future leaks and bursts, and ensure residents continue to receive a high quality, reliable water supply.
The work is due to start on Monday 18 May until November 2026 and will be carried out by teams from the water company’s partner, United Infrastructure.
The improvements form part of the company's wider, long‑term programme of investment to modernise its water infrastructure across the region. This will see Northumbrian Water spend £74m between 2025 and 2030 on water pipe upgrades.
Older sections of pipe are being replaced with new, durable materials designed to better with stand pressure and reduce disruption caused by unplanned repairs.
Teams will be working in and around the village while the improvements are carried out. Customers will be contacted in advance of any work taking place near their homes and traffic management will be in place where required to keep everyone moving safely.
Brian Hardy, Project Manager at Northumbrian Water, said:
“Renewing these water mains is an important investment in the resilience of the network in Longframlington and will help protect water supplies for years to come.
“We understand this type of work can be disruptive, particularly in smaller communities, and our teams will work as efficiently as possible to minimise inconvenience. We’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while these essential improvements are carried out.”
