Listening to customers, colleagues, partners, suppliers, regulators and communities helps us make better decisions.

We use engagement, research, independent challenge and partnership working to understand expectations and shape our plans.

Local Action is one way we bring this approach to life, giving customers, local stakeholders and community partners the opportunity to ask questions, understand our plans and raise local issues directly with our teams.

So far, the programme has engaged 1,392 attendees across our operating areas. Feedback from these conversations helps inform how we respond to local priorities and strengthens the link between engagement, decision-making and delivery.

Building confidence through listening

Independent customer feedback helps us understand how customers experience our services and where we need to improve.

In CCW’s Water Matters research, Northumbrian Water was ranked as the most trusted water and sewerage company, while Essex & Suffolk Water ranked third among water-only companies. Trust scores also improved in both operating areas, reflecting the importance of consistent service, clear communication and visible action.

We use this insight alongside customer research, complaints, operational data and engagement activity to inform decisions and strengthen the way we serve customers.

Strengthening future engagement

We will continue to strengthen how stakeholder insight informs our plans, decisions and delivery.

In 2026/27, this will include wider use of Community Hubs, giving customers a clearer way to follow local investment projects, receive updates, ask questions and share feedback. We will also continue to use customer research, the Water Forum, People Panels and targeted engagement to test priorities, explain trade-offs and understand expectations.

We will also engage customers, regulators, local authorities and environmental partners in the development of our next Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan, bringing stakeholders together through workshops and Strategic Planning Groups to help shape long-term drainage and wastewater priorities.
