The Catchment Land Use Team work within the North East, Essex and Suffolk catchments to improve and protect water from rivers, boreholes, aqueducts, reservoirs and aquifers before it is treated for use at customer taps.
We work with farmers, landowners, forestry and in partnership with other organisations to improve water quality across our catchments.

We do this by:
- Farm advice visits
- Grants (in Safeguard Zones)
- Training grants – where there is a potential benefit to water
- Organising and attending events to raise awareness
- Working with other agricultural advisors, eg Catchment Sensitive Farming, protected area advisors, Environment Agency advisors, rivers trusts and wildlife trusts
- We also fund river habitat improvement and restoration schemes where there’s a link to water quality, e.g. peatland
