Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk is offering Year 10 students from across the North East and Essex a unique opportunity to spend a week gaining work experience with teams across the businesses.
The water companies are offering the chance to explore a variety of different roles during the week, including working with and meeting people whose jobs involve science, engineering, customer service, IT and marketing skills.
The experiences are a great way to gain a broad understanding of what it's like to work for Northumbrian Water and develop the skills needed to help young people apply for jobs in the future.
Sophie Carvin, Northumbrian Water's NWG Academy Manager, said: "As part of the experiences, students will visit Treatment Works to see key elements of the water cycle in action. They will also learn how to score CVs, like one of our hiring managers and see how we deliver outstanding service to our customers, amongst other activities.
"Students will grow in confidence through completing tasks with peers from other schools. By the end of the week they'll have a better understanding of what a working environment is like and what is expected."
In the North East, a week-long unpaid experience takes place from Monday July 13 to Friday July 17 and students will be expected to attend Northumbrian Water's offices in Pity Me, Durham, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
In Essex, the unpaid experience takes place from Monday July 20 to Wednesday July 22 and students will be expected to attend Essex & Suffolk Water’s offices in Hanningfield, Essex, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
Sophie added: "We're looking for people who are reliable and hard working to take part in this programme. They'll demonstrate enthusiasm to learn about all aspects of our work, including the service we provide to our customers.
"We want people to be the best they can be and we also want them to feel it's a great place to work. Often people spend their career with us, some because they've found their niche, others because of the opportunities to progress through the organisation. What a great opportunity to get a real insight into that."
