The Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon has announced WaterAid as its official charity partner for its tenth anniversary event.

The international water and sanitation charity is joining forces with Steve Cram and the Events of the North team for the first time and is the perfect fit for the weekend′s events, set around Northumbrian Water′s beautiful Kielder Reservoir in Northumberland.

As an official partner, WaterAid has a guaranteed 50 places in next year′s Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon weekend, which takes place on 12 and 13 October 2019, and will be looking for charity runners to help fundraise.

Together with other members of the water industry, Northumbrian Water founded the charity in 1981, which helps to transform the lives of people in some of the world′s poorest countries, by improving access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

The weekend usually attracts around 3,000 runners from across the UK and 2019 is expected to be the biggest yet, as the event celebrates its tenth birthday.

Everyone who signs up is being given the opportunity to join the WaterAid team of runners, as well as the option to make a donation when entering, to help transform lives around the world.

Olympic athlete and race organiser, Steve Cram, said: "We′re delighted to have WaterAid on board as our official charity partner for the tenth anniversary of the Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon weekend.

"We′re really looking forward to working with the fundraising team to make sure that the partnership is a huge success for them, not only through the donations that our runners will bring in, but also by having a big presence from Team WaterAid, those running on behalf of the charity in one of the many events we have on offer.

"We look forward to Kielder making a big difference globally through the partnership with this fantastic charity."

The Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon Weekend is delivered by Events of the North in conjunction with Northumbrian Water, Active Northumberland, Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

It includes a Run Bike Run duathlon, a 10K, a half marathon and the main marathon itself.

Christine Mellor, Water Industry Partnerships Manager, WaterAid said: "We are delighted that WaterAid has been chosen as the official charity partner for the Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon next year in partnership with Northumbrian Water - one of our founding partners.

"The money raised will help support our work to get clean water and decent toilets to some of the poorest people around the world, and helping transform lives."
