Northumbrian Water′s largest water saving campaign, Every Drop Counts, which offers customers a free water saving visit from a qualified technician, ends on Friday November 1, 2019.
During the visit, which lasts less than an hour, a technician will offer advice on how to save water and energy around the home, as well as installing a number of free water saving products worth up to £130, in bathrooms, kitchens and toilets.
So far, more than 1,200 households in Ashington have already had a water saving visit, helping them to save around 30 litres of water per day, as well as around £32 per year on their water bills.
Almost a quarter of the money spent on energy bills goes towards heating the water used for showering and bathing, so reducing overall water usage can contribute to even bigger annual savings.
Local resident, Ann Small, of Kirkharle Crescent, had a water saving visit in her home and received a free eco-flow tap, aerated showerhead, as well as a pack of goodies which included a shower timer.
She said: "The visit was great. While my house is a new build and already relatively efficient, there was still the opportunity have water-saving products installed on my taps and shower.
"The technician who carried out the visit was very friendly, professional and explained the purpose of his visit. I′d urge anyone thinking of having a visit to sign up - this is a completely free service and why would you not want to save water and reduce usage - it′s a no brainer!"
Tim Wagstaff, Water Efficiency Manager for Northumbrian Water, said: "We′ve had a great response to our Every Drop Counts initiative so far. It might be coming to an end but there′s still some time for customers in Ashington to book their appointment and start saving water, energy and money on their household bills.
"We′re passionate about working with our customers to help them use water wisely, and this a great opportunity to really make a difference to the environment and to our customer′s pockets."
