A scheme to reduce the risk of flooding in County Durham gets underway next week (Monday June 4, 2018).

Northumbrian Water is diverting and replacing the sewer pipe which serves The Grove, Coxhoe to help reduce future flood risk.

The £130,000 project, which is being carried out by the water firm′s supply partners, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), is expected to be complete by Monday July 30, 2018.

The Grove will remain accessible to all vehicles throughout the duration of the work, however it will be reduced to single file traffic.

Project Manager, Paul Brewis, said: "This work is important to make sure that we can protect the local community and the environment for future generations.

"We know how devastating sewer flooding can be and we are committed to reducing the risk of it happening in future.

"We′re working with our supply partners to make sure that disruption is kept to a minimum and would like to thank our customers for their patience while we carry out this work."

Customers can find out more and follow the progress of the project on Northumbrian Water′s Community Portal at www.nwlcommunityportal.co.uk and by following the link to ‘The Grove, Coxhoe′.
