The fifth iteration of the water company’s Innovation Festival is returning next month (OCT) with celebrity guests, wellness sessions, fun, comedy and most importantly an array of sprints, hacks and dashes aimed at solving the toughest water sector, environmental and societal challenges.

Experts, engineers, academics, brainiacs and anyone with an eye for innovation are being welcomed to the world’s greatest festival of innovation, as it takes place in a hybrid nature for the very first time.

This hybrid get-together will allow for innovators from across the globe to join the festival virtually in a similar way to the 2020 event – which saw participants from 37 different countries hacking and dashing around the clock.

At the same time, some sprints will take place in real-life smaller hubs across the UK - allowing innovators to experience the buzz of the previous physical festival in a COVID-safe environment.

Taking place on October 18-21, the festival is expected to see thousands of people get involved in sprints focusing on issues such as net zero, water poverty, customer experience, employee wellness and technology.

Angela MacOscar, Head of Innovation at Northumbrian Water, said: “This year, we are yet again venturing into the unknown by hosting the festival in a hybrid format – but I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

“We will see the best of both worlds, as we combine the fun and face-to-face elements of the physical festival with the global elements of the digital event we held last year.

“This means we can get the very best out of our innovators, by having them in whichever environment works best for them – so I am expecting to see some very creative and exciting outputs from this year’s event.

“Every year, the appetite for our festival grows and grows which is why it is important to get registered as soon as you can to avoid missing out!”
