More than FIFTY Leaders from Northumbrian Water took part in a series of charity events for five good causes across Newcastle and Gateshead last night.

Company directors and senior managers got stuck into a series of challenges and activities as part of the company′s Just an Hour scheme - an initiative that has seen more than half of all Northumbrian Water employees volunteer their time to charities and local organisations in the last year.

The 56 people that took part gave up two hours of their own time to help out charities and causes including; Cash for Kids, Fighting All Cancers Together (FACT), Hope NE, St Oswald′s Hospice and Community Litter Pick.

And thanks to their hard work:

Cash for Kids - Their warehouse is now fully cleaned and ready to be filled in preparation for their Christmas appeal.

Fighting All Cancers Together (FACT) - More than 20,000 leaflets were sorted into packs for schools and over 100 prom dresses cleared and sorted ready for a sale.

Hope NE - Plans are now in place and all the promotional material is prepared for their next large fundraising event.

St Oswald′s Hospice - More than 1,000 posters and leaflets have been delivered across Newcastle city centre all about their upcoming activities and events.

Community Litter Pick - Thousands of cigarette butts, straws and other rubbish picked and bagged during a litter pick of Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides.

Northumbrian Water Group Commercial Director Graham Southall, took part in the FACT event, said: "We had a fantastic evening helping out five very worthy causes and it was an absolute pleasure to be involved. Hopefully we′ve been of use to them and helped them out in some way.

"We′re really proud of our Just an Hour scheme and the benefits it′s brought to charities and organisations across the region. It′s important for us as a company to be able to give something back to our communities and help where we can."
