The water company won the Fujitsu Digital Innovation Award at the Business in the Community′s Responsible Business Awards last night. (Tuesday July 3, 2018)

It was presented to the firm in a prestigious ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London, attended by over 1,000 business leaders and hosted by Sir Lenny Henry. The event celebrates the innovative ways that businesses in the UK and abroad are making a sustained difference and transforming communities.

Northumbrian Water Group was recognised for its Asset Performance Analytics project which utilises digital data tools to deliver intelligence-driven improvements to sewer pump performance, reducing flooding incidents and saving energy and money.

The award-winning initiative was introduced after more than 3,000 of the water company′s customers experienced disruption from flooding in 2016.

Nigel Watson, Northumbrian Water Group′s Information Services Director, said: "We know that flooding is one of the most devastating things that our customers can experience.

"Thanks to this innovative use of data, we′re able to identify the early warning signs of problems and take a proactive approach to reduce the risk of flooding in future, and we′re delighted for our achievements to be recognised with this award.

"As a responsible business, we′re always looking for new technology and new ideas to help us deliver other societal and environmental improvements, and we′re really excited to continue celebrating innovation at our Innovation Festival next week."

Amanda Mackenzie, chief executive at Business in the Community, said: "Huge congratulations to Northumbrian Water Group on their success in this year′s Responsible Business Awards.

"They are putting responsible business practices at the core of their company and are helping to create our mission to create healthy communities with successful businesses at their heart.

"We know they will now use this award to inspire and teach others. They do Britain plc proud with their leadership on the responsible business agenda."
