North East anglers have brought a national trophy back to the region for the first time in six years.

A team from Northumbrian Water took part in the 40th annual Water Industries Game Fishing Championships, competing against 11 other teams from water companies and the Environment Agency, across England and Wales.

Success at the competition held at Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs, in Yorkshire, marked the fourth win in the contest for Northumbrian Water.

The Championships see anglers competing individually across six sections, with Northumbrian Water team members winning four and gaining top five finishes in the other two.

Andrew Scott, a Waterside Parks Ranger for Northumbrian Water, finished second overall.

Don Coe, Leisure Operations Manager, said: "Across our Waterside Parks, we have some fantastic fishing venues that are enjoyed by anglers from around the region and those from further afield, who travel because they know how good our reservoirs are for fishing.

"That passion is shared by many of the people who work across the Northumbrian Water business and this was a fantastic opportunity for our team to get together and take on the rest of the water industry - and to bring home the trophy as champions of England and Wales."
