The North East water company launched a year of activity focused in the Northumberland town, at an event attended by community leaders and hosted at Wansbeck General Hospital.
It′s part of the firm′s new ‘Every Customer Counts′ campaign, offering customers advice on how to save water, prevent blockages, report leaks, take advantage of priority services and get help with their bill if they need it.
Health workers at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will also help customers to understand the importance of water on their health and wellbeing, as well as offering advice to those who may need extra support from the water firm.
Northumbrian Water′s Customer Director, Claire Sharp, said: "We want to help every single one of our customers and we know that quite often, customers can be surprised to hear about all of the extra care and support services we offer.
"Improving our customers′ ability to afford our services is one of the most important ways we can help them. That′s not just by installing a water meter and therefore saving money on water and energy bills, but also the tariffs we have available for our customers who would benefit the most from discounts.
"There′s also an opportunity, if we work together, to have a big impact on how we can protect the environment, whether that′s saving water in the home, reporting leaks or only putting toilet paper, pee and poo down the loo.
"We want to really make a positive difference in the communities that we serve and I′m delighted to launch a year of activity in Ashington, together with our partners at the NHS."
Claire Riley, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, said: "It′s a great campaign which is asking people in Ashington to get involved, looking at water for their health and wellbeing and as a health organisation, we′re happy to support that. It′s also about water efficiency, and making sure what you put down the drains is the right thing."
The campaign also includes Every Drop Counts, Northumbrian Water′s largest water saving campaign, where 10,000 residents in Ashington will have the chance to save water and money off their household bills.
Since April, 600 Ashington customers have already had a free water saving visit from a qualified technician, who will install a number of free water saving products, worth up to £130.
