Volunteers from Essex & Suffolk Water dropped in to ‘make the day′ of some special pooches and their two-legged friends on a visit to the Dogs Trust Basildon.

As part of the Water company′s ‘Make my day′ campaign, which is taking place from October 1-5 as part of Customer Service Week, the volunteers called in to the charity, armed with human and doggy cupcakes, as well as a range of items, such as dog food, dog toys and more.

They also gave the staff at the Wickford-based rehoming centre a chance to put their feet up and take a well-earned rest, while they made cups of tea and coffee for them to enjoy with their cupcakes.

‘Make my day′ is aimed at showing appreciation and love for people who contribute to making the communities of Essex and Suffolk special, whether it is through their everyday kindness or by having done something special.

Earlier this year, the company asked its customers and employees to nominate people or organisations that they felt deserved a treat and hundreds of suggestions came in. A panel of judges then tackled the tough task of deciding who the lucky recipients should be.

Stacey Dillon, from Essex & Suffolk Water, said: "It was lovely to be able to drop in and surprise the people and pooches at Dogs Trust Basildon with some well-deserved treats. The staff there work extremely hard every day to make sure all the dogs in their care feel happy, healthy and comfortable during their time at the centre. All the staff love the dogs like their own and always go the extra mile to make sure the dogs′ welfare is top priority."
