Fontburn Reservoir is hosting a special water training session for some very special friends this Bank Holiday (Monday, August 28).

People can visit and watch the Newfoundlands while they train from 11.00am until 3.00pm at Northumbrian Water’s Fontburn Reservoir (NE61 4PL) and watch these amazing dog’s learn how to save people′s lives.

Newfoundland dogs have been the St. Bernards of the sea for hundreds of years and people will see this in action on Monday. There will be rescue displays on the water including dogs retrieving people and towing a boat.

The event promises to be a great day out for all the family with the chance to meet these wonderful animals and even get a selfie!

Seeing these dogs in action learning how to save lives is exciting but people should remember being in and around water can be very dangerous. Reservoirs are very beautiful and it may be tempting to take a dip on a hot day, but there are many hidden dangers underneath the water.

People can find important water safety information at: www.nwl.co.uk/your-home/learn-about-water/water-safety.aspx

Visitors may also want to make a full day of it by bringing along a picnic and enjoying the new play park which opened recently and includes swings, climbing frame with slide and a zip wire. There is also a lovely 3.5 mile walk around the shoreline of the reservoir, through woodland and moorland with stunning views.

Parking charges, which contribute towards the continued improvement of Northumbrian Water’s waterside parks and facilities for the enjoyment of our visitors.
