Northumbrian Water is investing £900k to help safeguard water supplies for future generations in Teesdale.
The project will see the renewal of a large water main in Barnard Castle and work will begin on Monday, November 6.
The project is expected to be complete by July 2018 and the water company will be working with ESH-MWH to deliver the scheme.
Around 160 metres of water main pipe will be replaced between the western edge of the Deepdale pedestrian bridge and Lartington Lane.
Temporary traffic management is essential and will be in place on the B6277, Lartington Lane, from November 6, to March 2018.
Water supplies for customers will remain unaffected during the project, however, a temporary pipe will be positioned across Deepdale pedestrian bridge from January 2018 to June 2018 and during this time the footbridge will be temporarily closed to allow the work to be carried out safely.
Customers directly affected will be contacted in advance and kept fully informed.
Richard Johnson, Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager, said: “These essential works will help to maintain great tasting water for local residents and safeguard water supplies for future generations.
“We appreciate the footbridge is well used and apologise for any inconvenience our work may cause. We have planned our work to cause the least possible disruption.
“There will be a diversion route in place for pedestrians and signs showing this diversion will be visible.
“We are working closely in partnership with Durham County Council and Barnard Castle Town Council to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum and I’d urge people to keep an eye on our community portal for updates.”
