Northumbrian Water is investing £450,000 in improvements to the sewer network in Gateshead, reducing the risk of flooding and pollution.

Work will start on Monday 19 March in Brandling Street, Oakwell Gate and Cannon Street, upgrading 400m of sewer.

The project will take approximately 14 weeks to complete and traffic management will be in place during this period.

Andy McLaren, Asset Investment Programme Manager, said: "We′ve been liaising closely with Gateshead Council and businesses in the area, to keep them informed of our plans and will continue to work to minimise disruption in the area.

"The traffic management will be manned, rather than automated, during rush hour periods to minimise any effects and we have agreed seven-day working to enable us to complete the upgrades as quickly as possible."

The project will be carried out by Northumbrian Water′s partner, Esh-MWH.
