Northumbrian Water has today announced a brand new addition to its programme for the Innovation Festival 2018.

The five-day event held at Newcastle Racecourse on July 9-13 will see major national and global companies working with innovation experts, other businesses, local universities, schools and members of the public to come up with and explore innovative ways to help change the world.

As well as celebrating innovation and collaboration in the North East, the festival will feature a daily programme of activities aimed at highlighting the importance of health and wellbeing.

Five Ways to Wellbeing will explore a set of simple things people can do in their everyday lives to promote wellbeing under the key themes of Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.

Visitors to the event can take part in activities such as the Innovation Big Walk, which is a week-long activity encouraging all attendees to complete a virtual walk to Africa′s Lake Victoria and back. The line-up also includes:

• MyndPlay - learn to meditate, relax and control a floating ball around an obstacle course all with the power of the mind using brain gadgets and the world′s first mind-controlled video.

• PoundFit - An exhilarating workout that uses lightly weighted drum sticks and combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements.

• Eat Right - A highly interactive session on healthy food and nutrition.

Relaxation activities such as Indian head and hand massages, manicures, mindfulness and yoga will also be on offer, with others still to be announced.

Lisa Davis, HR operations advisor at Northumbrian Water, said: "Here at Northumbrian Water we take a holistic approach to wellbeing, thinking not just about a person′s physical health, but also their mental, emotional and social health.

"Five Ways to Wellbeing is a key focus of our own Health and Wellbeing programme, and we′re delighted to have the opportunity to share our tips and advice with the visitors at this year′s festival.

"We hope to highlight the importance of self-care and that all it takes is people to do a few simple things in their everyday lives to reap the benefits of a happy and healthy lifestyle."
