Residents of Springwell Village are being invited to find out more about - and have their say on - plans by Northumbrian Water to invest in enhancing water supplies for the area.

Northumbrian Water proposes to construct a new covered service reservoir on land it owns off Mount Lane, along with related pipe work in the local area. This is a £20m project that would likely see construction begin in 2020, following preparatory work on site.

The proposed project will make the water supply to customers in Springwell Village and the surrounding areas more secure. It will also enable the water company to support the wider Wearside and South Tyneside areas with a more reliable and resilient water supply for many years to come.

The reservoir would strengthen and future-proof the company′s existing network in the area, which directly serves around 125,000 customers. In addition, the new reservoir will enable us to provide improved resilience to the water networks in the wider Wearside and South Tyneside areas, benefiting a further 480,000 customers in these areas.

Residents are invited to meet the Northumbrian Water project team at a drop-in session at Springwell Village Social Club, Westfield Crescent, Springwell Village, NE9 7RX, between 2pm and 7pm on Tuesday 19 June.

Asset Sponsor Manager Michael Baker said: "The new service reservoir would help to ensure a more resilient water supply network to our residents in the Springwell Village area and across Wearside and South Tyneside.

"We are currently working on a planning application for this work and are looking to get the views of Springwell Village residents, so that we can take their views on board when shaping those plans.

"This scheme is part of our long-term plans to make our water networks across the North East of England even stronger and more resilient and would add an additional layer of protection to the water supply in this part of the region."

Any customers who are unable to attend the session can find out more and share their views on the company′s Community Portal at www.nwlcommunityportal.co.uk, or by calling 0345 7171100 to arrange a call back from the project team.
