Northumbrian Water will be working to clean and upgrade the mains along a stretch of Shields Road, Byker next year as part of a £3 million investment across Tyneside.
A customer meeting will be held at East End Pool, Hadrian Square, Byker, NE6 1AL on Wednesday September 26, 2018 from 4.00pm until 7.00pm for customers to meet the project team and find out more.
The work, which is being carried out by supply partners, Fastflow Pipeline Services, is due to begin on Monday January 7, 2019 and should be complete by Friday February 22, 2019.
Northumbrian Water′s Project Manager, Graeme Ridley, said: "We know that Shields Road is a busy area of Newcastle, so we want to talk to the community as early as we can to let them know what we′re going to be doing and understand how we can minimise any disruption."
It will be necessary to have temporary traffic lights and pedestrian crossings in place as the work progresses along Shields Road, between Morrisons roundabout and the junction of Algernon Road.
Graeme added: "We′re committed to improving the quality of drinking water and work hard to make sure our customers continue to receive excellent quality tap water in the future.
"We appreciate that there may be some short term disruption once the work begins and we′d like to thank our customers in advance for their patience."
The project will improve tap water quality for around 500,000 customers, as the mains are cleaned and upgraded across some 18 different locations in Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside.
