A Northumbrian Water apprentice has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Emily Tomlinson, from Durham, is one of three people up for the Apprentice Award in the 2019 Everywoman In Tech Awards.

The 23-year-old, who is in the third year of her information technology Degree Apprenticeship through the water company and the University of Sunderland, is up against apprentices from Deloitte and CGI, and will attend an event at the London Hilton on Park Lane on March 6.

Emily, who is also a part of the national Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, is currently working in the Cyber Security team at Northumbrian Water, helping to lead the company′s efforts to achieve ISO 27001 accreditation to reflect excellence in information security management.

Previously, she has helped to deliver a training platform for employees to make them safer online, at work and at home, and created resource materials for use across the whole business.

Emily said: "It was fantastic just to be put forward by my manager for this award, but to be on a shortlist of three alongside apprentices working for some huge businesses feels great. It′s exciting to be going to the ceremony in London, with the potential to be picking up a really prestigious award at this early stage in my career.

"I′m really passionate about apprenticeships, and it′s fantastic that Northumbrian Water thinks so much of those who have chosen this route into employment that it wants us to shine on a national platform."
