A Northumbrian Water worker has received royal recognition for her support of the company′s water charity work to transform the lives of people in some of the world′s poorest countries.

Nicky Jeffrey, from Slaley in Northumberland, has been awarded the President′s Award by WaterAid - the highest honour that the charity can give.

Endorsed by HRH the Prince of Wales, the President′s Award goes to dedicated fundraisers who provide outstanding contribution to the charity′s work to improve access to clean water and decent toilets.

Nicky, who works in the finance team at Northumbrian Water, applies the skills of her day-to-day job, acting as Treasurer to help oversee the company′s employee fundraising activities every year.

Her tireless work has helped the company to bring in around £200,000 each year in support of WaterAid.

Nicky, said: "I feel honoured for my contribution to be recognised in this way. Working in the water industry helps me realise just how much we take clean water and sanitation for granted.

"I′m really pleased to have been able to contribute to WaterAid′s success by getting involved in fundraising activities and taking care of the finances."

Northumbrian Water′s Chief Executive and Trustee of WaterAid, Heidi Mottram, said: "The water industry helped to set up WaterAid in 1981 and I′m so proud of the commitment our employees have continued to show.

"Nicky′s ongoing dedication to help bring clean water to those who need it, is something we can all take inspiration from and I′d like to congratulate her on this fantastic achievement."

Tim Wainwright, Chief Executive of WaterAid, said: "Nicky Jeffrey′s commitment and enthusiasm for WaterAid′s work is inspirational and I′m absolutely thrilled to present her with our President′s Award.

"As Treasurer for the Northumbrian WaterAid Committee for more than 10 years, she helps to raise around £200,000 each year for WaterAid, always ensuring the systems and processes are in place to optimise each and every fundraising initiative.

"This well-deserved award recognises Nicky′s contribution to enabling us to reach thousands of people with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. On behalf of all at WaterAid, I′d like to thank her so much for her unwavering support!"
