Northumbrian Water is investing more than £3m in upgrades at two of its sites that will benefit the environment through improved treatment of wastewater.
Work at the sewage treatment works in Stokesley and Great Ayton are scheduled to begin in August 2018 and last for up to 12 months, enhancing the processes at the facilities and improving the quality of water that is released into the River Leven.
The projects will be carried out by Northumbrian Water′s partner, Interserve Construction Limited, and will take place within the boundaries of the treatment works.
As well as upgrading existing facilities, new equipment will be installed and constructed, to ensure the two sites treat the area′s wastewater in a way that continues to meet the most stringent legislative standards.
Northumbrian Water Project Manager Dean Thompson said: "We are always looking to ensure the highest standards of treatment of the wastewater - or sewage - that comes through our network, and this investment at Stokesley and Great Ayton will help us to achieve that.
"While the work will be contained within our sites, we will work hard with our partners to ensure people living close to the works are kept fully informed.
