A group of leading North East businesses is once again offering exciting opportunities for undergraduate students to gain valuable, paid experience in the workplace.

Northumbrian Water, Esh-Stantec, Turner & Townsend, Interserve, MMB, Wood and IWS (Integrated Water Services) have expanded their joint programme of 12-week shared summer placements to also include 12-month opportunities.

During the course of the placements, students rotate their time among the participating businesses.

Successful applicants will be paid a living wage while receiving invaluable skills and experience on real life construction projects.

Richard Woodhouse, Asset Investment Programme Manager at Northumbrian Water, said: "We've worked with some brilliant young people over the first four years of the summer placements, some of whom have even enjoyed it so much that they've gone on to apply for further opportunities with us, with some obtaining full-time employment with participating companies. Likewise, our second group of year-long placements are really getting stuck in and making a difference to the teams they're working with, as well as the wider business.

"It's really exciting to be able to work with our partners to offer these opportunities again. We are passionate about developing the workforce of the future - our sector needs young people to enable it to continue to thrive - so if you're reading this and are interested in engineering, project management, and the built and natural environment, we want to hear from you."

Applicants should send a CV and covering letter, which can be accompanied by a supporting Vlog if they choose, to NWG.academy@nwl.co.uk by Friday, January 31, 2020.

Candidates for the summer programme must be available to work in the 12 week period from June to September 2020. The year-long placements will run from June 2020 to May 2021. Anybody interested in applying, who has questions, can address them to NWG.academy@nwl.co.uk.
