A £150,000 project in Essex will add resilience to water supplies for customers in Billericay and reduce the risk of disruption for local motorists.
Essex & Suffolk Water is investing in the replacement of approximately 400 metres of ageing water main on Outwood Common Road in Billericay.
The age of the pipes that are being replaced has resulted in bursts that have led to supply interruptions and significant traffic disruption in the past. The investment will replace two existing mains with one new, modern main, improving resilience for local customers and road users.
Works are planned to start on 2 February and will include a road closure for approximately six weeks, along Outwood Common Road from the junction with Greenway to the junction with Outwood Farm Road. A sign-posted diversion route along Hillway - Meadow Rise - Greens Farm Lane and vice versa, will be in place during the road closure. The team has worked closely with Essex County Council’s Highways Department to minimise disruption throughout the project.
Daren Still, Project Manager, Essex and Suffolk Water said:
“By installing a new water main, we’re strengthening the local network and minimising future disruption, tackling a stretch of ageing main that has experienced repeated bursts and disruption for customers and drivers. Our investment here will protect the local community from the risk of further bursts.”
