Teams from across Essex & Suffolk Water have been working harder than ever to find and fix leaks and save water.
In 2025, a total of 7,697 repair jobs were completed by the leakage teams, which is an average of 641 per month.
So far in 2026, during January and February, 1,254 repairs have been carried out, that’s an average of 627 a month.
The teams have also been deploying innovative new tactics to tackle leaks, such as using satellite technology to pinpoint exact locations of bursts to enable faster fixes and using drones to help reach remote areas.
All leaks are different but a recent example of a leak that was the customer’s responsibility to fix, saw a water saving of 0.13 litres per second, that’s the equivalent of 75 full baths every 24 hours. Finding and fixing leaks is an important part of protecting the water supply and making sure the water keeps flowing for everyone.
It also comes as Essex & Suffolk Water is investing c.£1.5bn in total in the region, between 2025 and 2030 to improve the water network. This is the largest investment programme in the last 30 years.
Carly Gray, Head of Water Networks for Essex & Suffolk Water, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our teams for pulling together and completing such an impressive number of repairs last year.
“These repairs make a real difference to the resilience of our network as we move into 2026, especially as we continue to invest in major improvements, such as the Layer to Langford pipeline projects and upgrades across our wider water infrastructure. It’s truly a team effort.
“Colleagues from across the business help by spotting unusual activity on the network, areas of high demand, or supporting customers who experience unexpectedly high bills caused by leaks on their property. Our customer support teams work with households to identify hidden leaks and offer advice, free testing, and tailored support where needed.
“Alongside this, our teams are out in all weathers responding to reported leaks, bursts, and emergency jobs using their expertise to diagnose issues and carry out repairs as quickly and safely as possible.”
While the team is actively working to identify leaks, customers can help. If you see a leak, you can report it via the company’s leakage portal on the website: Fix A Leak On My Property | What To Do When You Have A Leak
