Northumbrian Water Group’s, Heidi Mottram, was announced as the new WaterAid Trustee at the annual Supporters’ Day in London, Friday October 13, 2017.
WaterAid is Northumbrian Water Group’s international charity partner and works in 34 countries to provide people with basic human rights – access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
Heidi has been chief executive at Northumbrian Water Group for seven years. In 2015, she visited WaterAid’s work in Malawi to learn more about how the charity works and the incredible impact it has on peoples’ lives.
In her new role, Heidi will work alongside the board of nine trustees, who are responsible for helping the charity make a bigger impact and change millions more lives.
She said: “It is an honour to be involved with such a life-changing charity. Having been out to Malawi, where 11.5 million people don’t have access to safe water, I’ve seen first hand the suffering caused by something that we take for granted every day in the North East.
“I have the utmost respect for WaterAid’s approach, their team and their passion to give people basic human rights. As a trustee, I hope to help WaterAid continue their mission to reach everyone, everywhere with safe water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030.”
Northumbrian WaterAid is committed to raising £1 million for WaterAid projects in Madagascar by 2020, where currently, almost 4,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and sanitation.
WaterAid’s Chief Executive, Tim Wainwright, said: “We’re over-the-moon that Heidi Mottram is joining WaterAid as a trustee this October. As CEO of Northumbrian Water, she brings with her a wealth of sector-specific knowledge and a true commitment to our vision of reaching everyone, everywhere with clean water, hygiene and decent toilets by 2030.
“Heidi is a huge supporter of our work, and her enthusiasm deepened when she saw our projects first-hand in Malawi a couple of years ago. She’s an excellent addition to our trustees team, and we warmly welcome her on board!”
Last year, Northumbrian WaterAid raised £210,000. If you would like to support the appeal and make a donation, please email wateraid@nwl.co.uk.
