‘’Thurrock’s Next Top Boss’’, an unique partnership bringing industry and education together to provide competition and challenge for young people, announced its winners at the finale at South Essex College, Grays.

Gateway Academy was chosen as the winner for ‘The Green Solution Business Challenge’. Essex & Suffolk Water set ‘The Green Solution Business Challenge’ for the third time, in 2017.

Helen Jacobs, Senior Conservation Advisor, who judged the event said: “We asked Thurrock’s next top bosses to come up with creative ideas to educate and inform visitors to Davy Down Riverside Park. We have a partnership with The Land Trust, and as a part of the Green Solution Business Challenge, we asked for a creative and innovative interpretation plan so that the visitors have a wonderful experience and come away well informed.’’

Representatives from secondary schools and colleges were at the event with sound, music, and presentations production managed by level 3 production arts and technical theatre students. An audience of nearly 150 students, teachers and businesses packed into South Essex College to celebrate the finale of Thurrock Council′s -Thurrock′s Next Top Boss project 2017.

Nine schools and one college took part in months of hard work and preparation aiming to claim one of the three awards up for grabs: The Green Solution Business Challenge, the Business Challenge and the overall runners-up award.

Businesses set school teams different tasks and problems to solve. Teams were judged on criteria such as team work, evidence of budget management, creativity and success against the brief. The event is gaining popularity year on year involving over a thousand students from across Thurrock.

Announcing the winner of the ‘Green Solution Business Challenge’, Helen Jacobs said, “The interpretation plans were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the entries. A great standard of work by the top bosses made the judging very difficult. The concepts presented by Gateway Academy who named their team as ‘Beyond Expectations’ was fantastic, making them the deserved winners.’’

“The successful winners will now have a chance to do a presentation to the Davy Down management team, making their ideas into reality.” She said.
